We planned this during the first lockdown because we were missing playing in the Durham Miners Gala, which was cancelled for 2 years due to Covid. Thanks to Crowdfunder who made their platform free for bands to enable them to raise money, we were able to raise enough to record this album. Some of it was recorded with players 2m apart - but you can't tell!
We also ran a poetry competition during the lockdown, the brief was simply a poem about the Gala. The Winning poem, 3rd Cornet and the two highly commended poems are also featured on the CD.

The CD is recorded in four sections, the first is the music played as the bands march through Durham, the second a selection of the type of music played outside the County Hotel, the third is the music played during the Gala Cathedral Service, and finally music representing the march away from the Cathedral and the sound of the gala itself.
